Open Doors 2024 | Parallel Event

On Saturday, May 18, 2024, at 12:00, the opening of the photo exhibition of the estate’s editions "By Word of Mouth" and a speech by Maria Vlachaki, Dr. History – Museology AUTH, will take place at the estate's garden.

• Opening of the photo exhibition. Participating photographers Alexandros Avramidis, Yeoryia Aslanidou, Stergios Karavatos, Petros Mitkas. 

The photography exhibition is part of Ktima Gerovassiliou editions entitled "By Word of Mouth". From 2012 to date, 10 editions dedicated to Epanomi have been released. 

Each edition, through words and images, focuses on a different theme. Their common goal is to present Epanomi through its past and present. With love for the village and its inhabitants, every year the team of the Estate collaborates with locals, researchers, and photographers.  

•  Speech "Oral history: co-creating community memory and identity", with Maria Vlachaki, Dr. History - Museology, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.  

Oral history constitutes a participatory process of exploring the past, enhancing the active participation of the members of the local community, which has the ability to reflect and co-create its collective memory. The specificities and challenges of making use of oral history and its contribution to highlighting different and often unknown aspects of local history and the construction of a multidimensional, polyphonic memory and identity are presented in the context of this speech.  A typical example is the volumes of the series "By Word of Mouth" which were put together by Ktima Gerovassiliou.
