Inauguration of the Gerovassiliou Wine Museum

These were the words of His Majesty the President of the Hellenic Republic Mr. Karolos Papoulias, honoring Vangelis & Sonia Gerovassiliou, after completing the inauguration of the Gerovassiliou Wine Museum, on Monday October the 27th, 2008.

The Wine Museum has been under reconstruction for 18 months under the guidance of the team & associates of Mr. Panos Tzonos, professor of Architecture at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and Mrs. Matoula Skaltsa, professor of History of Art & Museology at the same University.

Hundreds of visitors were toured in the Wine Museum staring from the origin of the vine and wine through the apprx. 2500 exhibit items of Vangelis Gerovassiliou's personal collection and enjoyed the new releases of the estate wines.

The idea on which the Wine Museum is evolved is the wine itself, its making techniques and its importance for the human beings.

There are two big sections in the Wine Museum. Primarily the collection of corkscrews, ancient vessels and glass bottles and secondary the collection of viticulture and vinification-related items plus bottling equipment.

Modern technology is blended with tradition harmoniously through three-dimensional wall screens matching the estate wines with various food. Touch screens introduce the visitor to the wine-glossary. In a projection show, scenes from Greek and foreign films and photos underline the importance of wine in the every day human life of the society.

The all scenery in the Wine Musuem is supported by the neighboring vineyards, winery and tasting halls, regarding the seasonal character of the visit.
