A very interesting lecture on a topical and much debated issue gave the archaeologist and head of excavations at Kasta of Amphipolis Katerina Peristeri and the associate professor of Applied Geophysics Grigoris Tsokas at the Gerovassiliou Wine Museum.

Mr. Tsokas presented innovative geophysical methods that with the use of electrodes can give three-dimensional visualization of the terrain and images from inside the Kasta hill of Amfipolis. The results can be used to distinguish the natural formations from anthropogenic structures in order to identify new sites requiring excavation.

Mrs. Peristeri presented what they have so far unearthed. Findings that are of the last quarter of the 4th century BC, of stunning beauty and many of them in remarkably good condition. The excavation team argues that the tomb was probably a memorial dedicated to the close friend of Alexander the Great, Hephaestion.

We would like to thank Mrs. Peristeri and Mr. Tsokas for the great honour and all of you for your presence.
