We welcome 2015 with our first lecture for the new year. Astronomy professor of Thessaloniki University John Seiradakis comes to the Gerovassiliou Wine Museum on Monday, January 12, 2015, at 19.00, to give a lecture on “Antikythera Mechanism”.

The Antikythera Mechanism is an accurate clocklike mechanism dated back from 150 to 100 BC and was accidentally found in 1900 AC. It was the first (analog) computer designed to calculate the Sun’s and Moon’s positions, the lunar phases and predict eclipses (solar or lunar). It also consists of an extended user guide.

Professor John Seiradakis from the Laboratory of Astronomy (Faculty of Sciences, School of Physics) will bring us in contact with the world famous discovery and will surprise us with the new evidence that came to light…
