Ktima Gerovassiliou says farewell to summer and welcomes the new viticultural year with a special screening of Aggeliki’s Aristomenopoulou documentary “A Family Affair” (Anemon Productions, www.anemon.gr) on Friday, 16 September 2016, at 20.30.
A Family Affair, an intimate portrait of the famous Xylouris family and their sacred bonds with the musical tradition of Crete. From the legendary Nikos Xylouris and his brothers, famous lyre player Antonis Xylouris- widely known as Psarantonis- to their children and grandchildren, three generations of musicians of the family who uphold and pass on the vibrant tradition of Cretan music, performing ceaselessly to followers across the world.
The main characters of the documentary are George Xylouris, the famous lute player and singer -nicknamed Psarogiorgis-, his three children studying in Australia and his father, Psarantonis. The film follows Greece’s most famous musical clan, to discover the electrifying power of their music and the sacred ties that hold the family together. From the mountains of Crete to Australian deserts, the film unravels the portrait of a unique family that has the power to sacrifice -and win- everything through music.
A documentary about the luminous energy of the family, the strong ties connecting father and sons, and the incredibly beautiful musical tradition. Tradition and modernisation, past and future create a contemporary story involving a global audience. From the director's note.
